Pandesal

Pandesal

Pandesal is a soft, slightly sweet, and airy Filipino roll that is loved for breakfast and as a snack. Pandesal can be enjoyed on its own, but it tastes heavenly with a layer of butter melting into the warm bread. Many also like to fill it with cream cheese, jam, or sweetened condensed milk for an extra sweet experience. Pandesal (16 pieces)

Ingredients

  • 585 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 1.5 tsp salt
  • 70 g sugar
  • 3 dl milk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 40 g butter, at room temperature

Instructions

  1. Place all the dry ingredients in a stand mixer. Add the lukewarm milk and eggs.
  2. Knead for 10 minutes.
  3. Add the room temperature butter and knead for another 5 minutes.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  5. Divide the dough into 16 pieces and shape into rolls. Dip the top of each roll in breadcrumbs.
  6. Place the rolls with the breadcrumb side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (approximately 45x33 cm).
  7. Cover and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  8. Bake in the middle of the oven at 180° C for 20 - 25 minutes.
