Korean-Inspired Sausage Buns, 6 pcs

These sausage buns are inspired by Korean sausage pastries, often sold as street food or as a quick meal in Korea. They consist of a light and slightly sweet yeast dough filled with flavorful sausages, topped with cheese and ketchup. Additionally, a bit of oregano is often used for extra flavor and aroma. The result is soft, juicy sausage buns that are perfect for lunch, dinner, or as an easy dish to serve to guests.
Ingredients
- 270 g all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 1.5 dl lukewarm milk
- 1 egg
- 50 g butter, at room temperature
- 6 sausages
- Grated cheese
- Ketchup
- Dried oregano
Instructions
- Place the flour, salt, sugar, and dry yeast in the bowl of a stand mixer.
- Add the lukewarm milk and egg. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes.
- Add the room temperature butter and knead for another 5 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces and roll them into balls.
- Roll out one ball at a time into an elongated shape. Place a sausage on the dough and wrap the dough around the sausage.
- Make deep cuts through the sausage and almost down to the bottom of the dough. Alternate folding the sausage pieces to the right and left to create a decorative pattern.
- Place the sausage buns on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and let them proof for 20 minutes.
- Sprinkle grated cheese on top, add ketchup, and sprinkle with a bit of oregano.
- Bake in the middle of the oven at 175 °C for about 25 minutes, until the sausage buns are golden and cooked through.
Serve the sausage buns fresh out of the oven while the cheese is still melted and the dough is soft and airy. They are just as suitable for a simple weekday dinner as they are for a buffet, in a lunchbox, or as a tasty treat to serve when you have guests. Enjoy the taste of Korean-inspired street food in your own kitchen!
