Chocolate Cake

This moist chocolate cake is easy to make and is perfect for everyday treats as well as birthdays and other pleasant occasions. The cake has a soft and airy texture thanks to the oil in the batter, while the rich chocolate buttercream adds the finishing touch. A classic favorite that is sure to please both young and old.
Ingredients
Cake
- 180 g all-purpose flour
- 180 g sugar
- 20 g cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp vanilla sugar
- 1.5 dl water
- 6 tbsp (about 90 g) rapeseed oil
- 2 eggs
Frosting
- 300 g room temperature butter
- 40 g cocoa powder
- 400 g powdered sugar
- A pinch of flaky sea salt
Whisk everything together until you have a fluffy cream.
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180 °C. Grease or line a round cake pan (about 19-20 cm) with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and vanilla sugar.
- In another bowl, lightly whisk together the eggs, water, and oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined – do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the center of the oven for about 40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool and then cut it in half before applying the frosting.
Once the cake has cooled, generously spread the chocolate frosting over the top and optionally along the sides. Decorate with a light sprinkle of flaky sea salt, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries for an extra inviting finish. Serve the cake with a cup of coffee, a glass of milk, or a nice cup of tea and enjoy a delicious chocolate experience.
