Ingredients

  • 960-980 g flour
  • 1.5 dl sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cardamom
  • 1 packet dry yeast
  • 6 dl milk
  • 150 g room temperature butter
  • Filling
  • 150 g room temperature butter
  • 100 g sugar
  • 3 tsp coarsely ground cardamom
  • Mix all the filling ingredients together.

Instructions

  1. Add all the dry ingredients to a stand mixer.
  2. Pour in lukewarm milk and knead for 5 minutes.
  3. Add room temperature butter and continue kneading for another 10 minutes.
  4. Cover and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll it into a large square. Spread the filling over the dough. Fold the dough in towards the center and then fold the other side over the entire dough to create 3 layers. Roll out again. Use a pizza cutter to cut about 18 strips. Pick up a strip, twist it from both ends and tie a simple knot. Do this with all the strips and place 9 knots on a baking sheet.
  6. Cover and let the knots proof for 30-45 minutes.
  7. Brush with egg and sprinkle with sugar.
  8. Bake at 200 °C, in the middle of the oven for 15-20 minutes.
