Trip to Alicante

We have just returned home from a little, much-needed vacation in Alicante; we needed a small break from the gray and wet weather back in Norway! This time, we chose to rent a slightly larger apartment through Myflats Alicante, and we do not regret it for a second. It was very luxurious, with high ceilings, and gave us plenty of space to relax.

On the first day, we decided to take a little excursion and rented a car to visit Canelobre Caves. The trip started off nicely, but after about 20 minutes, we had an experience we would have preferred to avoid. We stopped at a stop sign, and suddenly there was a bang; we were rear-ended.
It was quite an unpleasant experience at that moment. Fortunately, we were all okay; the other car thankfully wasn't going very fast. Still, the impact was strong enough that we felt it in our bodies, and the rear bumper took a solid hit. A bit shocked, but still in good spirits, we could confirm that the car was thankfully still drivable. We therefore chose to turn around and drive back to the rental company, where we easily got a replacement car. Thank goodness for good insurance!
With a new car and a slightly elevated pulse than planned, we set off again. This time, the rest of the journey thankfully went smoothly.
Upon arriving at the Canelobre Caves, we joined a guided tour, and it was truly an experience worth the whole trip. The cave is one of the largest in Spain and is located high up in the mountains with a fantastic view of the surrounding area. Inside the cave, an impressive chamber opened up with enormous stalactites and stalagmites that have formed over thousands of years. It felt almost like walking into a stone cathedral; in fact, the main chamber is often referred to as “the cathedral” due to the high ceiling and special acoustics. The guide shared fascinating stories about how the cave was formed and used throughout history, which made the experience even richer.

After the cave visit, we continued on to the Museo del Chocolate Valor. There, we also had a guided tour, where we learned about the history of chocolate production, from cocoa bean to finished chocolate. The highlight? The tastings, of course! We got to sample several different types of chocolate, and it was hard to choose a favorite.

The rest of the vacation was spent enjoying what Alicante has to offer: warm sunshine, good food, refreshing drinks, and relaxing days. Exactly what we needed. All in all, it was a vacation filled with both drama and magical experiences. A trip we will not soon forget.
